AI for Communicators | Webinar Q&A
Our latest Lunch & Learn Webinar focused on the exciting topic of AI. We were joined by AI Integration Specialist, Fiona Passantino, who explored the power of multi-modal AI tools and how to integrate them into your communications function to enhance content development strategies.
The session was filled with questions, so much so that we couldn’t fit them all into our 1-hour session. If you missed the webinar or we ran out of time to answer your question, see below for Fiona’s insights:
Global AI Trends and Data Security
AI is a global phenomenon, with significant developments in countries like the USA, China, and Japan. We’re also seeing models emerge in France, UAE, and Finland. Data security remains a major concern, especially in Germany. AI systems collect, process, and store vast amounts of data, posing risks of unauthorized access and data breaches. GDPR and the EU AI Act provide some guidelines.
Regarding Microsoft co-pilot, no LLM is 100% safe. Future models require human-generated material for training.
AI Integration and Ethical Considerations
Businesses should approach AI with policies, principles, and training to ensure everyone is on the same page. Engaging people in this process is crucial. There are concerns about copyright with AI-generated images, especially when mimicking existing artists’ styles. Dall-E and other visual GAN or diffusion AIs can create logos and brands.
Governance is essential for AI integration. Balancing AI-driven communication with human connection, trust, and empathy is a challenge for our generation. Internal comms teams should discuss AI tools with their agencies to ensure transparency.
AI-generated content should be credited as “Prompted by (human), generated by (AI Tool).” There’s a risk that organizations may start to sound similar due to AI modalities, emphasizing the need for unique human writing skills.
AI Tools and Future Implications
AI tools like Staffbase can help measure and evaluate internal comms and engagement. Meeting note systems pose confidentiality risks as data enters external systems. Prompt engineering certifications can standardize practices and improve outcomes.
AI applications are often free because user data becomes the product. Xpedite offers AI courses for comms professionals. For competitor research, Perplexity and Google Scholar are recommended. AI may impact early career tasks in comms, but gaining exposure to different platforms is beneficial.
Currently, few employers require AI expertise, but this may change in the next 2-5 years. By 2030, hiring managers may seek candidates with experience in AI platforms.
