Doina’s Experience in the International Recruitment Market

Doina Grubii joined VMA GROUP in 2021 as a Recruitment Consultant, specializing in Communications, Digital & Marketing, EMEA. Her journey highlights the significance of language skills and international awareness in the recruitment industry.

The Role of Language in Recruitment

Working on both permanent and interim placements, Doina has observed the critical importance of languages in recruitment, regardless of the sector. Speaking six languages, including English, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, French, and Italian, Doina’s linguistic abilities stem from a childhood love of cartoons like The Flintstones, Scooby Doo, and Looney Tunes.

Unexpectedly, this pastime shaped her professional future, setting her apart in the fast-paced international recruitment market. Moving to London in 2021 from Bucharest, her language skills proved advantageous in the multicultural city, where she began working with VMA GROUP.

Connecting Through Cultural Awareness

Doina recounts feeling immediately prepared for the cultural diversity in the recruitment sector. Her ability to connect with clients and candidates, whether through their native language or cultural empathy, is a skill many lack.

Language awareness is not only invaluable for recruiters but also a significant asset for candidates. Doina notes that candidates with language skills stand out, as these skills demonstrate cultural awareness and an increased memory span, both beneficial in the business sector.

Language Skills in a Competitive Market

In a highly competitive market, Doina observes that many English applicants rely on the widespread use of English in business, while non-English applicants often showcase their multilingual abilities. The importance of languages in the employment sector is evident, whether as a recruiter or a first-time candidate.

Doina emphasizes that it is never too late to learn a new language, and it can be as simple as watching TV!
