The fifth edition of our internal communications market survey reveals significant trends within the internal communications (IC) profession. This report provides valuable insights and analysis, highlighting the evolving nature of the field.
Maturing Profession & Expanding Teams
Over 50% of survey respondents have a decade or more of experience, indicating that IC is no longer a “new” discipline. As the profession matures, team sizes and roles are expanding. In 2015, over a third of IC functions increased their headcount, with another third planning to grow in 2016.
This unprecedented hiring intention presents challenges for recruiters and line managers. The demand for new opportunities is high, with 69% of respondents applying for a new job in 2015 and nearly 80% looking for a new role in 2016.
Valuation & Demand for Internal Communications
It’s encouraging to note that many IC professionals feel highly valued by their employers. About 65% believe they have a ‘voice at the top table,’ which is a positive development. Additionally, 72% of respondents feel that the CEO truly values the importance of IC within their organisation.
Furthermore, 87% of these respondents anticipate an increase in demand for IC within their organisations over the next 12 months. This trend underscores the growing recognition of the strategic role IC plays in business success.
