There has been a significant emphasis on improving equality in the workforce, with many employers focusing on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I). Recently, social mobility and socio-economic diversity have become central to these efforts. Employers can and should do more to help people from all backgrounds succeed in the workplace. This article summarizes insights from a recent D&I Forum on Social Mobility.
Expert Insights on Socio-Economic Diversity
At our D&I Forum on Social Mobility, we were joined by three brilliant speakers, all experts in their field, who discussed the importance of socio-economic diversity:
Alexandra Sufit
Alexandra Sufit, Former Head of Employer Communications at the Social Mobility Commission, recently completed a year-long project for the Social Mobility Commission. She worked with commissioners and senior business leaders to drive socio-economic diversity across the UK workforce. Alexandra is also actively involved in gender equality campaigning.
Tom Goddard
Tom Goddard, Head of Communications at KPMG, is responsible for external, internal, and strategic communications. KPMG was the first business in the UK to publish comprehensive data on the socio-economic background of its workforce in 2016. Since then, it has been consistently recognized as one of the leading employers on the Social Mobility Employer Index.
Mona Vadher
Mona Vadher, Senior Policy and Programme Manager of the Socio-Economic Mobility Taskforce, is an experienced programme and policy manager and consultant. Her experience centers around social impact and boosting social mobility and employability prospects. Currently, she manages a government-commissioned taskforce that seeks to improve socio-economic diversity at senior levels within UK Financial and Professional Services.
