Andrew McConnell, Head of Media and External Affairs, CAA

Andrew leads the Media & External Affairs team at the UK Civil Aviation Authority. He has worked with the Transport Sector for more than 30 years and has worked for several UK and international airlines. During his career, he has navigated a variety of crisis situations, including the response to the 7/7 London Bombings, the closure of airspace in 2010 due to the Icelandic volcano and the collapse of Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook & Flybe.

Robert Crawford, Media Lead, CAA

Robert Crawford is the Media Lead at the UK Civil Aviation Authority overseeing the day-to-day media operations, ensuring a high standard of quality for the output of the communications team, including press releases, social media posts and media responses. Robert has navigated several complex issues and crises including leading the Office of Rail and Road’s response to the Carmont rail crash, the Civil Aviation Authority’s response to the most recent Flybe collapse and assisting in changing the narrative of space regulation.
