Recent research has found that 57% of BAME working professionals say that the momentum towards improving diversity in their workplace has slowed down (People Like Us/Censuswide).

Communicators had a leading role to play last summer when it came to creating safe conversations around diversity and inclusion. How can communicators continue this momentum, and how can diversity be embedded into communications strategies in an authentic way?

Ann-Marie Blake, Founder Board Member PRCA Race and Ethnicity Equity Board

Ann-Marie has over 20 years’ experience as a business communicator. A keen mentor and executive coach she’s passionate about helping others build their confidence so they can reach their full potential. Ann-Marie holds Chartered PR Practitioner status She is a founder board member of PRCA Race and Ethnicity Equity Board and sits on the IABC International Executive Board. Ann-Marie will talk about how we achieve long-term proportional racial equity within the communications industry.

Beth Carter, Global Diversity Communications Manager

Beth Carter is a strategic communications and engagement leader with eight years of experience in the legal sector. Beth now works in the specialist role of global Diversity Communications Manager for White & Case, creating a holistic strategy encompassing internal and external communications, events, and major D&I initiatives. Beth is committed to ensuring diversity and inclusion work receives leadership support, is included in team and organisation-wide objectives, and is communicated with transparency and accountability. Beth has previously had a focus on supporting senior leadership communications, driving major change initiatives, improving employee engagement, and enhancing employer branding

Phopy Macaulay, Global Business Change and Communications Lead

For over 20 years, Phopy has been honing her passion for communications, change and engagement in organisations from civil service to FTSE100. Phopy's drive for ensuring that what is communicated not only adds values but inspires and excites has meant that she has had the privilege to work on some amazing legacy projects!

Phopy will be talking about her experience as a disabled, lesbian person of colour who is often asked to lead D&I communications as she ticks every box on the list! Her favourite quote on this topic is from Aiko Bethea " Real diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work is not about a checklist. It's about relationships."

Lucy Povey, Project Director of Communications & Engagement at Totaljobs Group

Lucy began her career working at one of Canada’s leading Wedding Planning companies based in Vancouver. Her path has been varied, organising a range of events from mass participation sports events and conferences to awards parties and fashion shows in the UK and overseas.

Lucy joined Totaljobs Group in 2018 as Head of Events and Internal Communications and has most recently taken on the role of Project Director of Comms and Engagement. Lucy is passionate about employee engagement and wellbeing in the workplace as well as employer branding. Lucy is the current co-chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Management Taskforce at TJG.

Lucy will be talking about to work in partnership with highly engaged employee networks and the process of forming a D,E&I Management Taskforce
